Tai Chi Exercise Groups

Tai Chi is a gentle low-impact exercise that involves slow, controlled movements and postures. Tai Chi has many benefits. It can improve balance, mobility, flexibility, strength and coordination. Practising Tai Chi can also improve relaxation and promote mindfulness, while also promoting overall general health.

The classes that CHIRP Community Health provides, in conjunction with the Tai Chi volunteer instructors, begin with warm-up exercises. The leader then demonstrates and teaches one or two movements per lesson. Participants are encouraged to learn the movements properly and slowly, working within their comfort limits. The lesson then ends with cool-down exercises.

CHIRP Community Health has Tai Chi groups in Castlemaine, Guildford, Newstead and Maldon. The ‘Tai Chi for Arthritis’ program created specifically for people with arthritis is used, but you don’t need to have arthritis to attend our Tai Chi classes. Tai Chi can provide physical and mental health benefits for all in the community, including the Tai Chi Leader.

What is the cost?

The cost for the Tai Chi classes is a small donation to cover the cost of the venue hire and up keep of the program. See the table below for more information about the cost for specific classes.

Who is eligible to join?

Anyone in the community can come to the Tai Chi classes, and new participants are always welcome. Tai Chi is also a suitable exercise class that is suitable for beginners and older people.

CHIRP UP!

SAVE OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES

For 35 years, the communities of Mount Alexander Shire have known who to turn to when they need help.

Sadly, CHIRP may not be around to turn to in future.

Government funding has not kept pace with the rising cost of delivering community health services.
This is happening everywhere, but smaller rural services like ours are the hardest hit.

We need a commitment from the Victorian Government, so we can maintain our services
and not be forced to close our doors.

We need a commitment from the Victorian Government so we can maintain and grow our local services:

Support a community model of health and let CHIRP get on with delivering vital services for our community
