Nordic Pole Walking for Seniors
CHIRP Community Health has partnered with Castlemaine Community House and Maldon Hospital for this Nordic Pole Walking program in the Mount Alexander Shire.
Nordic Pole Walking is a low impact form of exercise that activates 90% of the muscles in the body. This can result in toned upper arms, shoulders and back muscles. It has a greater aerobic effect than regular walking with reduced strain on the lower body.
What is the cost?
This program is free as it has been funded by Active Neighbourhoods for Older Australians. Nordic Poles are available to loan for booked participants.
Who is eligible to join?
These Nordic Walking groups are for people aged 65 years and over. Nordic Pole Walking can be performed by people with any fitness level. No experience or poles necessary for these groups, just an interest in trying this popular form of exercise.
Where and When?
Volunteers who have been trained by the Nordic Walking academy are leading this program. The one-and-a-half hour sessions include a 15-minute warm up, a one hour walk and end with a 15-minute cool down.
The current Castlemaine Group is FULL and is currently not taking new participants.
We are currently taking bookings for the upcoming Maldon group which will occur from March 11th to June 24th:
Time: 7:00am – 8:30am
Where: Maldon Hospital, 1 Chapel Street Maldon.
Other Nordic Pole Walking Groups for 2020 in the Mount Alexander Shire will occur at:
- Harcourt: starting on the 17th of May,
- Castlemaine: starting on the 18th of July.
