Housing Services

If you are experiencing homelessness call 1800 825 955 (freecall number, open 24/7) or contact us about our services and programs.

CHIRP Housing Service was brought under the wing of CHIRP Community Health in 2015, and now in its 30th year, the team continue to provide a quality response to people in housing crisis in the Mount Alexander Shire. Before joining CHIRP Community Health, the group was known as Castlemaine Housing Service and Castlemaine and District Accommodation and Resource Group (CADARG).

As a member of a regional network of Specialist Homelessness Services we assist people with:

  • Transitional Accommodation
  • Applications for the complex Social Housing process
  • Private Rental assistance with rent arrears, moving, bonds, rent in advance and tenancy advice
  • Emergency Accommodation
  • Advocacy, advice and referrals

We are funded by State and Commonwealth departments; and all assistance is accompanied by a case plan for the client to address the causes of their housing crisis. This may be due to:

  • Rent arrears
  • Family violence
  • Gambling concerns
  • Recurring homelessness, overcrowding, unsafe, short-term, or inappropriate housing

We work closely with other service providers such as schools, GPs, police and local real estate in the case management we provide for clients.

In addition, we are closely integrated with the CHIRP Community Health’s Family Services team, the Allied Health team and Counselling Services to provide a holistic coordinated service.
